Hyderabad surprised me the first time — I came for the biryani (obviously) and stayed for the forts and the old-city charm. It's also genuinely hot, so my Day 1 plan is built entirely around beating the afternoon sun.
1. Charminar & 2. Laad Bazaar
Start at the Charminar in the old city, then get happily lost for an hour in Laad Bazaar right beside it — bangles, pearls, and the kind of controlled chaos I actually enjoy. This whole area is best done in the morning.
3. Golconda Fort & 4. Chowmahalla Palace
Golconda Fort is the highlight — climb up for the views and, if you can swing it, come back for the evening sound-and-light show. Chowmahalla Palace nearby is a calmer, indoor break with serious Nizam-era grandeur.
5. Tank Bund by evening
End at Hussain Sagar / Tank Bund for the big Buddha statue out on the lake and a boat ride at sunset. Practical bits: it gets properly hot from midday, so carry water and knock out the outdoor forts early. Salar Jung Museum is a great backup if the heat chases you indoors. Something closed or moved? Let me know below and I'll fix it.
