Chicago Speakeasy Bars – 2021

I am New to Chicago, IL so have been exploring lot of places. I am more of a Bar hoping guy especially looking out on speakeasy bars. There are not many genuine Speakeasy bars in this city like when compared to NY or CA.

Will try to list couple of them here with pictures, hope you guys get an idea. So my number one in Chicago would be :

  1. The Drifter

678 N Orleans St, Chicago, IL 60654

We really had fun finding this place. It was under a restaurant and way to it is you need to go inside the The Green Door Tavern restaurant . This restaurant serves local beer and is happening all the time. So for the Speakeasy bar you go down towards the restroom and there is a secret bar towards the wall. You need to knock twice and the guy from inside opens up. Though it’s small..its fun and Menu is of the tarot cards 🙂

That’s inside the speak easy bar..we made it in after 1hr waiting at that stairs…..There is no reservations here. Tip: Consider parallel parking next to the restaurant, public parking lots are quiet costly.

  1. 3 Dots and a Dash

Definitely will consider as speakeasy bar. Must visit place. Its a tiki bar with great ambiance. Entrance is at ally of the building. Because of covid reservations are required. On spot showups are also there but with little wait. Awesome drinks and friendly staff. Try to go over weekdays when there is less crowd.

  1. Booze Box/Sushi Dokku

Little away from downtown but nice sushi and sake place. Pricy too. Not much of a speak easy bar but its underground (ask for Booze box Lounge access or else you will end up over a regular restaurant patio seating), will definitely get you a feel for it.

  1. The Bassment

353 W HUBBARD | LOWER LEVEL CHICAGO, IL 6065

There are couple of places but this is the genuine one and has live music too. Reserver on this site:

  1. Room 13

If you search online it would show you the Hotel/Stay and inn. But owner has a small private place underground but it’s a membership based entrance. You can always ask John for a trial one day membership and he can hook you up for a slot.

  1. Bordel

1721 W Division St, Chicago, IL 60622

Its little out of downtown area (Wicker Park), but nice place to visit. Its more of Spanish fueled meal and drinks cocktails are like Paris meets Chicago’s Prohibition era. Recommended to do reservations. There are approx 60-65 mins live performances too. So you can sit at a table not more than 90 mins.

Nice Cocktails and Live events. I would say, do reserve before going to that place.
